Increasingly, cities and low-lying areas are at risk of sewer overflow from extreme rainfall. Stormwater tanks can help reduce the impact of extreme climatic events by holding back excess stormwater and contaminants. This protects the environment and makes possible the intelligent management of stormwater flows, resulting in savings on infrastructure investments. Now Grundfos has developed a handbook informing engineers about tank design and optimisation.

Storm Water Systems introduces full capture netting system

19 July 2010

The hub and net design of the StormX captures rubbish and debris from storm water runoff which finds its way into outfall lines and the ends of pipes.

Storm Water Systems will unveil StormX to the North American markets in August 2010 at the StormCon and American Public Works expositions. Attendees will have the opportunity to examine the product first-hand and utilize the StormX calculator which allows the user to view flow rates by entering various parameters.

StormX is constructed of stainless steel hubs anchored into concrete for a weir configuration or secured directly to concrete or steel pipe outfalls with reusable commercial grade nets. Rubbish and debris flows with storm water runoff into the system where the nets capture the rubbish and allow the water to continue to flow unimpeded.

The construction of StormX allows for the weirs and nets to assist with sediment fallout and collection without flooding. The system's built-in overflow mechanisms allow for heavy runoff to flow unimpeded during a heavy rain event.

Gary Hopkins, president of Storm Water Systems said: “Governments and citizens are realizing that we must stop litter from moving into our waterways at every juncture possible if we are going to ensure a clean and safe environment for generations to come. StormX is a powerful and economical solution that will stop the flow of both floatable and non-floatable trash and debris as small as five millimetres in size. It is the perfect tool for capturing trash and debris before it reaches the waterways of any size city or town.”
