The Ras Az Zawr seawater desalination project will be constructed in the Ras Az Zawr region, 75 km northwest of Jubail, an industrial city in eastern Saudi Arabia. The plant will supply water to the Saudi capital Riyadh. The US$1.46 billion seawater desalination project will have a capacity of 228 MIGD (Million Imperial Gallons per Day) and the plant’s daily potable water output will be the largest in the world, sufficient to meet the needs of 3.5 million people per day.
Doosan will carry out the project on an EPC-basis, which will include engineering, production and installation of equipment and facilities, as well as testing and commissioning. The company expects to complete the project by January of 2014. The plant will be constructed by adopting a hybrid method that will combine MSF (Multi-Stage Flashing) (160 MIGD) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) technologies (67.5 MIGD).
