AECOM awarded contract to upgrade Sha Tin water treatment works

17 November 2010

The design and construction-services contract is from the Water Supplies Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

AECOM will provide detailed design and construction supervision to upgrade the existing South Works from 95 to 145 million gallons per day, while maintaining output from the full plant at 232 million gallons per day. In addition, a new visitor centre will be added, and the final layout plan for subsequent redevelopment of the full plant will also be developed. Other AECOM services to be provided during the project include detailed process reviews, pilot testing and tender invitation.

John M Dionisio, AECOM’s president and chief executive officer said: “AECOM is excited to support this upgrade to one of Asia's largest water treatment works, which will supply water to more than 2 million people in Hong Kong.”

The upgrade's total construction cost is estimated to be US$500 million. The project is scheduled to be completed during 2016.
