Thames Water replaces leaky London water pipes

17 March 2011

Ninety miles of leaky cast-iron pipes in South East London have now been replaced with plastic pipes under Thames Water’s £75 million investment to replace Victorian water mains.

The Thames Water project, which started in 2005 and is due to finish in March 2013, will eventually see the replacement of 136 miles of pipe.

More than 40% of London’s water mains are over 100 years old.
