Pipe technology from the Pressure Pipe Inspection Company reduces water infrastructure pipeline replacement costs

15 June 2009

The Pressure Pipe Inspection Company (PPIC) can reduce water infrastructure replacement costs by only replacing the distressed sections of pipe.

PPIC has expanded its line of pipe inspection technology by adding PipeDiver™, which is intended to reduce water infrastructure pipeline replacement costs by allowing the operator to replace only those sections of pipes that are damaged or distressed.

Designed to operate in live pipelines, PipeDiver™ can reduce ongoing inspection costs, and keeps the pipeline in service, removing the need for dewatering and system shutdown - especially important when dealing with infrastructure that cannot be taken out of service due to operational constraints or a lack of redundancy.

The PipeDiver™ system provides information on the condition of prestressed concrete cylinder pipes and, according to PPIC, is a cheaper alternative to tradition large diameter pipeline inspection. PipeDiver™ is aimed at municipalities hoping to reduce the water infrastructure repair costs. It uses the recognised standard for condition assessment and works by transmitting critical data about the integrity of the entire pipeline.
