Grant for construction of $8.5 million water treatment facility

26 August 2009

Ten communities in northeast Georgia have been told they will receive an American Recovery and Reinvestment Grant.

Officials with the City of Lula were awarded $6 million, the largest portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Grant. They are combining it with a $2.5 million loan from the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority to go towards the construction of the $8.5 million water treatment facility.

The remaining communities are using the grant for projects including construction of a new one million gallon clear well, pump station and associated water main in Bank County and replacement of 2,000 water meters and upgrade of 1000 meters to transmit information to a new automated meter reading system in the City of Clayton.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Grant supports city leaders in their efforts to bring growth and opportunity to the Highway 365 corridor.
