Mumbai uses filters to tackle 15% water cuts

06 October 2009

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to set up filtration plants at well sites

The BMC has dug wells and cleaned and repaired its boreholes to aid the provision of usable water. According to officials, the wells will be connected to large filters which will help filter out impurities and dirt and benefit the areas that are located at a height where water with low pressure (due to the existing 15% water cut) does not reach.

The filters have a capacity of 4,000 to 5,000 litres each and a well might have more than one filter attached. As well as these filters, desalination plants and sewage treatment plants are also being planned as a long-term measure to provide water for non-potable use.
