Thames Water interim results for six months ending 30 September 2009

Reporting a steady financial performance, Thames Water Utilities has improved drinking water quality, reduced leakage by 24% in the past four years and customer complaints are down 27% on last year

Between 2005 and 2010, Thames Water has spent more than £2m every day to replace and improve its ageing water mains, sewers and other facilities. In the first half of 2009, Thames Water turnover increased by 3.7% to £805.6 million within price limits set by Ofwat.
 

Operating expenditure for the period was £301.9 million, which is up on the preceding period following a 67% increase in customer bad debt to £16.2million. Operating profit for the period went up 2.7% to £331.8million, compared to the same period in 2008.
 

Pre-tax profit for Thames Water was £225.5million and capital investment for the period was £379m. Total capital investment for regulatory period 2005 to 2010 is on target to total £4bn.
 

Sir Peter Mason, chairman of Thames Water said: “Serving customers better and becoming more efficient, despite a tougher economic outlook, remains the focus of Thames Water's business plan for 2010 to 2015.”
