Hyflux awarded S$35.8 million contract for Singapore’s largest MBR plant

25 February 2010

Singapore’s national water agency, PUB, awarded Hyflux subsidiary, Hydrochem Pte Ltd, with the contract to design, construct, test and commission the membrane bioreactor plant

The 68,000 m³ per day capacity membrane bioreactor plant at the Jurong Water Reclamation Plant will be Singapores’s largest, and the largest to be built by Hyflux. The membrane bioreactor plant will use biological processes and microfiltration membranes to treat used water from the industrialised Jurong catchment area for use by industries on Jurong Island.

Wah Yuen Long, PUB’s director said: “Hyflux has been a long-standing partner of PUB with extensive experience in water reclamation and we are happy to collaborate with Hyflux once again. With advancement in membrane technologies, it is now possible for membrane bioreactors to reclaim used water in an industrialised catchment such as Jurong for industrial use. In this way we are also able to free up other sources of water for potable use.”

Construction of the membrane bioreactor plant is scheduled to begin on 3 March 2010 and is expected to be completed within 18 months. Hyflux will provide maintenance services to the membrane bioreactor plant for the 12 month period after completion of the project.
