Black & Veatch selected to conduct an Investigation Study for sewage treatment works

The Drainage Services Department (DSD) in Hong Kong has requested the study for a sewerage treatment works at South Lantau as part of the Outlying Islands Sewage Stage 2 project.

The South Lantau area in Hong Kong has some of the most ecologically valuable waters in Hong Kong, including a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Drainage Services Department's Outlying Islands Sewage Stage 2 project will provide sewerage collection and treatment to villages in South Lantau Island whilst ensuring that the special marine environments off the island maintain their natural beauty.

Black & Veatch will be responsible for the planning, environmental permitting and preliminary design of the sewerage collection system, which includes an environmentally-friendly compact wastewater treatment plant and a marine outfall for effluent disposal. Black & Veatch will investigate the suitability of membrane bioreactor technology for the wastewater treatment plant. The project will also be a pilot to assess the implementation of Eurocodes, structural design codes for civil engineering, to Hong Kong for drainage and sewage works.
